Art deco is the style for you if you like a bit of drama in your décor. It emerged in the 1920s and 30s and is all about geometry, luxurious materials and symmetry. Today it's back — not as a complete style overhaul, but as striking details that lift an otherwise understated room.

## What is art deco?

Art deco is characterised by sharp geometric shapes, repeating patterns, sunburst motifs and a fondness for shiny, exclusive materials like brass, marble and mirrored glass. It's elegant and confident — a counter-reaction to the spartan.

## Geometric shapes

The geometric is art deco's DNA: fan shapes, zigzags, circles and trapezoids. You can bring it in with [wall decoration](/en/collections/vaegdekoration), patterned textiles or a [vase](/en/collections/sjove-vaser) with a striking, sculptural silhouette.

## Brass and metal
